The qualification question used to be simple. It is not any more.
Five years ago, a contractor could answer most client questions with a CV and a portfolio of finished jobs. Today, the questions come with paperwork attached. Funded retrofit programmes, housing providers, local authorities and Tier 1 contractors increasingly want the same thing: documented proof that the people on the job are qualified to do it.
And it is no longer just the installer who needs to prove it. Retrofit projects now require qualified retrofit assessors and coordinators. Sites need supervisors and managers with recognised credentials. Insulation work is specified by measure, with competence expected pathway by pathway. The need for qualifications has widened — across roles, across trades and across career stages.
That is why we have launched the new NetRet Training Prospectus: a single portfolio covering qualifications across the retrofit, insulation, construction and management sectors.
What the portfolio covers
Domestic retrofit and energy efficiency. From the Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Domestic Retrofit through to the Level 5 Diploma in Retrofit Coordination and Risk Assessment — including Level 3 and Level 4 Certificates for Retrofit Assessors and the Level 3 Award in Energy Efficiency for Older and Traditional Buildings. These are the roles funded retrofit projects are built around.
Insulation. Level 2 and Level 3 NVQ Diplomas in Insulation and Building Treatments (Construction), with specialist pathways covering cavity wall, solid floor, under floor and cold roof insulation at Level 2, and external wall, internal wall, room in roof, hybrid wall and park homes at Level 3. Qualifications that match the measures you actually deliver.
Construction trades. A broad range of Level 1 to Level 3 Awards, Certificates and NVQ Diplomas — from plastering, roofing, tiling and fenestration to specialist areas such as the installation of photovoltaic panels, cladding occupations and site inspection.
Site supervision and management. NVQ Diplomas from Level 3 Occupational Work Supervision through Level 4 Construction Site Supervision and Level 6 Construction Contracting Operations Management, up to the Level 7 NVQ Diploma in Senior Site Management. Recognised routes for the people who run the work, not just the people who do it.
Why this matters commercially
Qualifications are no longer a personal development choice. They are business infrastructure. Individual competence is the foundation on which everything else is built — including the evidence a business needs when it pursues company-level certification and funded contract opportunities. A workforce that can prove its competence is a business that can prove its eligibility.
All qualifications in the portfolio are delivered through practical, work-based learning and assessment by experienced professionals. Many may be eligible for funding — ask us and we will tell you what applies to your situation.
Which qualification is right for you or your team?
That depends on your trade, your role and where you want to be — and it is exactly the conversation we have, every day.
Tell us which qualification interests you. We will come back to you with the most suitable pathway, plus details on enrolment, funding opportunities where available, timescales and costs.
