Role Overview:

NetRet is seeking an experienced Renewable Energy Quality & Training Specialist to lead the application, implementation, and approval process for NetRet as a certified body for Solar PV, Electrical Energy Storage Systems (ESS), and Air Source Heat Pump installations. The role will focus on achieving Flexi-Orb or MCS and UKAS certification. After certification, the role will focus on maintaining compliance, delivering training, improving service quality, and driving continuous improvement across operations. The successful candidate will oversee the development and delivery of training programs to ensure the workforce is fully equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to meet industry standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Certification Body Development:

  • Lead the development and implementation of systems, processes, and policies to achieve Flexi-Orb or MCS certification and UKAS accreditation.
  • Manage the application process, acting as the key liaison with Flexi-Orb or MCS, UKAS, and other regulatory bodies.
  • Conduct internal pre-assessments and audits to ensure readiness for external certification audits.
  • Develop, deliver, and oversee training programs for Solar PV, ESS, and Air Source Heat Pump systems, ensuring staff are trained and compliant with industry standards.

Post-Certification Responsibilities:

  • Deliver ongoing training sessions to installers and staff on Solar PV, ESS, and Air Source Heat Pumps, ensuring they are up to date with new technologies and regulatory changes.
  • Compliance & Audit Management: Ensure ongoing compliance by managing regular internal audits and preparing for annual external audits from Flexi-Orb or MCS and UKAS.
  • Training & Development: Continuously update and refine training programs and deliver tailored training as required.
  • Quality Assurance: Implement a quality assurance framework to monitor and improve the performance of certified installations.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously refine internal systems and processes to enhance compliance, efficiency, and service quality.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks to certification compliance, ensuring that any non-conformities are resolved promptly.

Key Deliverables & Monthly Targets:

Month 1-2:

  • Familiarise with current systems and certification-related processes.
  • Develop a detailed 12-month project plan for achieving Flexi-Orb or MCS and UKAS certification.
  • Initiate contact with Flexi-Orb and UKAS to begin the application process.

Month 3-4:

  • Conduct a gap analysis to identify areas needing improvement for certification readiness.
  • Begin implementing necessary changes to internal policies and procedures.
  • Develop and begin delivering training programs for Solar PV, ESS, and Air Source Heat Pump installations, ensuring installers and staff meet compliance standards.

Month 5-6:

  • Complete and submit Flexi-Orb or MCS and UKAS certification applications.
  • Conduct internal audits and pre-assessments to ensure readiness for external certification audits.
  • Finalise documentation and prepare for external assessments.

Month 7-8 (Post-Certification Transition):

  • Develop and implement a Certification Maintenance Plan to ensure ongoing compliance with Flexi-Orb or MCS and UKAS requirements.
  • Establish a Quality Monitoring System to track the performance of installations and identify areas for improvement.
  • Continue delivering training to ensure staff remain compliant and proficient in Solar PV, ESS, and Air Source Heat Pump installations.
  • Create a Risk Register to manage potential non-conformities and risks to certification.

Month 9-10:

  • Conduct an internal audit to ensure all certified processes remain compliant with Flexi-Orb or MCS and UKAS standards.
  • Expand and deliver training programs based on installer feedback and emerging industry trends.
  • Implement a Customer Feedback Mechanism to gather insights from clients and use the data to drive improvements in quality and service delivery.

Month 11-12:

  • Prepare for the annual external audit, ensuring all internal processes and documentation are in compliance.
  • Review and refine Installer Competency Assessments through training sessions to ensure ongoing adherence to certification standards.
  • Implement any necessary process adjustments based on customer feedback, aiming to achieve a 90%+ customer satisfaction rate by the end of the first year.

Ongoing Annual Targets (After Year 1):

  1. Maintain Certification Compliance:
    • Conduct bi-annual internal audits to ensure ongoing compliance with UKAS and Flexi-Orb or MCS standards.
    • Manage annual external audits, resolving any non-conformities within 30 days.
    • Stay updated on changes to industry standards, ensuring the company’s processes remain compliant with PAS 2030/2035 and BS EN ISO/IEC 17065.
  2. Quality Assurance & Delivery Improvements:
    • Implement a quality monitoring system to track the performance of installations and reduce errors or complaints by 10% annually.
    • Establish a continuous improvement process to regularly evaluate and enhance service quality, aiming for a 95% success rate in achieving installation quality benchmarks.
    • Conduct quarterly reviews to assess installer performance and ensure compliance with standards.
  3. Training & Competency Development:
    • Conduct an annual training review to ensure all staff are up to date with the latest technologies and standards for Solar PV, ESS, and Air Source Heat Pumps.
    • Ensure that all installers complete mandatory refresher training annually.
    • Deliver training sessions for any new technologies and updates to certification requirements to ensure staff stay proficient and compliant.
  4. Client & Installer Feedback Systems:
    • Develop a customer feedback loop to gather and act upon client reviews and insights, aiming for 90%+ customer satisfaction annually.
    • Create an installer feedback system to capture insights from the field, which can drive process and training improvements.
  5. Risk & Compliance Monitoring:
    • Regularly update the Risk Register, addressing new compliance risks and ensuring non-conformities are resolved within 30 days.
    • Ensure the company maintains a 100% compliance rate with certification standards, mitigating risks of suspension or withdrawal of certification.
  6. Performance Metrics & Reporting:
    • Develop monthly and quarterly reports for senior management on compliance status, audit results, and quality assurance.
    • Use Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure performance in installer competency, customer satisfaction, and service quality improvements.

Key Skills & Experience:

  • Compliance & Certification Expertise: Strong track record in managing certification processes, particularly with UKAS, Flexi-Orb or MCS, or similar certification bodies.
  • Renewable Energy Expertise: Technical expertise in Solar PV, ESS, and Air Source Heat Pump systems, with experience in delivering training.
  • Project Management: Demonstrated ability to manage complex certification projects and operational improvements.
  • Continuous Improvement Focus: Proven experience in quality assurance, process improvement, and risk management.

Required Qualifications:

  • Degree in renewable energy, engineering, or a related field.
  • Level 3 in Education & Training (supplied by Vela Training).
  • Project management certification (e.g., PRINCE2, PMP) is desirable.
  • Extensive experience working with certification bodies like UKAS and Flexi-Orb.

Employment Package:

  • Salary: £45,000 per annum, gross, payable monthly in arrears.
  • Benefits: Comprehensive benefits package including pension, healthcare, and annual leave.
  • Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week (flexible).
  • Holiday Entitlement: 28 days per annum, plus public holidays.
  • Performance Reviews: Ongoing performance will be evaluated annually.
